Description
These lovely sunrise plumeria blossoms are in the colors of a Hawaiian sunrise. They have always been one of my favorite tropical flowers. Pua is the Hawaiian word for flower, while melia is the term for plumeria.
These special blossoms range in color from white to deep red along with several pink and sunrise varieties, all with a delicate fragrance. They are the most popular lei blossom and the most readily available most of the year. While not originally native to the islands, they were one of the first flowering trees introduced in the 1800s and adapted extremely well to the climate. The trees that produce these blossoms are typically not very large but are quite prolific. Plumeria trees can be found in almost every yard on each island in Hawaii.
In the Hawaiian culture, the plumeria symbolizes positivity and is used in leis and to celebrate special occasions. When worn in the hair, the plumeria flower symbolizes the relationship status of the wearer.
This digital work of art was created using a combination of watercolor and dry brush methods. Watermark will not appear on purchased image.

Plumeria, one of the most beautiful, the most fragrant flowers ever. Love the finishing treatment and the muted background that makes the flower pop.
