Description
Orchids are so widely spread on the Big Island of Hawaii that it bears the nickname of "The Orchid Isle." Three varieties of rather nondescript orchids are actually native to Hawaii, but their more exotic cousins arrived in the late 1800s where the rain forests of the Big Island were well suited to grow these beautiful flowers. Orchids are cultivated on farms, but they can also be easily found in the wild hanging from tall trees that they have attached themselves to.
Orchids are so common in the islands that cocktails and salads are often served with orchids as an decorative embellishment, tall sprays of orchids are widely used in floral arrangements, strung into colorful leis, and are also worn in the hair.
This digital work of art was created using a combination of oil and dry brush methods. Watermark will not appear on purchased image.
