Description
Lovely blue orchids shimmer under a Hawaiian moon in an exotic and magical garden.
While true blue orchids do not actually exist in nature, they can be found in almost every other color. Orchid leis are one of the most popular and widely available varieties, usually made from dendrobium orchids. Orchids are a relatively new arrival in the Hawaiian islands. It all started in the late 1800s when Chinese laborers arrived to work on the sugar plantations. Many workers brought plants with them.
The Big Island is actually referred to as The Orchid Isle as many orchid plantations cultivate these exotic flowers in near perfect growing conditions. Many wild varieties can be found in the rain forests as well. The Hawaiian word for orchid is 'Okika.
This digital work of art was created using a combination of watercolor, fine line pencil and dry brush techniques. Watermark will not appear on purchased image.
