Description
Traditionally, hibiscus flowers represent delicate beauty, unity and peace. The hibiscus flower holds special meaning in many Asian countries and is also the national flower of Malaysia. The hibiscus has five petals that each represent a different quality and come together to represent ultimate peace.
In the Hawaiian culture the hibiscus flower symbolizes royalty, power, and respect. Often worn by the old kings and queens of the Hawaiian islands, the hibiscus became associated with the ruling class. Therefore, it is not surprising that this lovely blossom is the state flower of Hawaii.
Hibiscus flowers are often worn in the hair as they can last a full day without water. The most common color is red, however, several hybrid species produce an array of flamboyant tropical colors from brilliant yellow tones, to orange and even purple.
This digital work of art was created using a combination of dry brush and watercolor pencil techniques. Watermark will not appear on purchased image.

Such an exciting composition. Just beautiful!
J Marielle replied:
Thank you so much, Mary. It was actually inspired by a vintage muu'muu that was black with a cascade of tropical flowers down a side panel. I had a lot of fun with this. Thanks again!

Wow! Love it.
J Marielle replied:
Mahalo, Craig. Years ago, and I mean YEARS ago there was a mu'u mu'u designer who had done a beautiful print with red anthiriums and white orchids against a black background. I always remember how striking the colors were and wanted to try something similar. Thanks so much!
