Description
The upcountry region of Maui is dotted with beautiful jacaranda trees. When these beautiful trees bloom in the spring, the landscape is transformed into a purple wonderland. The entire stretch of Kula Highway is covered in blossoms. As you progress from Kula into Ulupalakua, there are many ranches with the iconic lava stone walls and fences that divide grazing pastures. It is said that the Menehunes built these walls ages ago. There is a beautiful ranch not far from Ching's market that is the inspiration for this painting where I spent countless hours on horseback exploring this beautiful region of Maui.
