Artist's Description
An intriguing juniper tree trunk stands along the Kayenta Canyon Trail in Zion National Park. I love the intense "shredding" of the bark and the beautiful texture of this majestic tree. The fact that this beautiful tree is thriving by living in a mixture of boulders and sandstone, and is clinging to the edge of a 200 foot drop-off along the canyon trail just amazes me.
Image taken March, 2015 while hiking in the park.

Thank you so much. These types of trees with this bark just fascinate me. I hope it is still standing. Shortly after I took this hike several sections of this trail were destroyed by a huge flash flood. The trail is still closed and under repair. I hope it's ok -- it was so beautiful. Thanks again!! :)

Thank you so much, Janet! I love hiking that trail -- there is so much beauty there. Living on the edge is right! It looked to be literally hanging by a thread. Thank you so so so much!! 💖

I am very fond of trees and I love to photograph them. There are about 6 species of Juniper in Arizona. The Utah Juniper, which is prevalent at the South rim of the Grand Canyon, I have photographed a lot. This tree has certainly amazing bark and branches with all that shedding going on. Giving it a hairy orangutan look. They give meaning to the expression, living on the edge. Zion National Park, so much diversity to photograph. Well done Jane! LVFV Janet 💕
