Description
Water erosion has caused deep texture and brilliant color to form in this fascinating rock formation seen near the Emerald Pools and Kayenta Canyon Trail junction at Zion National Park. In my opinion, this is one of the most beautiful hikes in the entire park. (Hint: If you do this combined hike, start from Emerald Pool trail head near park lodge. It is much easier than starting at the Kayenta Canyon trail head.)
The water cascading from these falls is not caused by rain.This is water that is forced out of the sandstone as it collects in the compressed layers of rock. Park Rangers say that the water that finally makes it to the surface and flows over the rocks has been trapped in the sandstone for nearly 4,000 years.
