Welcome to your dream location in this charming and rustic gated community -- where the coyotes, lynx, antelope and big horn sheep roam freely throughout this beautiful desert setting...
This is all that remains of a wooden timber fence where cattle once roamed over a hundred years ago. In the days before China Ranch became a date farm, it was a working cattle ranch owned by a Chinese man named Ah Foo. Ah Foo had once been a twenty-mule team wagon driver for Harmony Borax works at Death Valley in the late 1800s. It is believed he worked this ranch from 1890 to the very early 1900s, when he was driven off at gun point by a man named Morrison who wanted the ranch for his own. Morrison also prospected in the badlands surrounding the ranch, mining gypsum and other minerals from the sandstone cliffs and hills. Many of these abandoned mines can be seen along the road leading into China Ranch. They bear colorful names such as "Gypsum Queen" and others.
